Stand at the downspout you plan to redirect and trace the gutter run feeding it — every roof section that drains into that gutter counts; sections with their own downspout do not. Measure on the ground, not the roof surface: • Run the tape along the wall under the eave — that is the length. • Measure the roof depth from eave to ridge as seen from above — roughly half the house width on a gable roof. • If two downspouts share one run, split the run length between them. Multiply length × depth and write the area, in square feet, on the worksheet with the date.
