- Set the coverage threshold for individual item records30 min
The threshold is the line that decides how you document everything you own. At or above it, an item gets its own record — photos, serial number or receipt, and a current price. Below it, the item folds into a room-level line item like “Kitchen – small appliances.” Write the rule down now, because every later phase checks back against it.
Run any item through the two-question check:
- Would it cost US$500 or more to replace today?
- Does the policy cap this category below US$500? Jewelry, electronics, art, and firearms carry special sub-limits on most policies.
Answer yes to either question, and the item gets its own record. Answer no to both, and it is a room-level line item. Paste the rule into the top of your notes so it survives the weekend.
