Pass the Series 7 on a six-week plan

  1. Get your firm sponsorship confirmed
    30 min

This step produces written confirmation from your firm’s compliance department that they will sponsor your Series 7 registration — and the name of the principal who will sign your Form U4.

One email can land both. The risk is an incomplete first message: every missing detail means a day or two of back-and-forth while study time ticks.

Send it to the right desk. Address the email to the compliance department or your designated onboarding contact. If you do not know who that is, ask your hiring manager or HR.

State the essentials. Your full legal name, your SIE pass date, the exam you are seeking (Series 7 Top-Off), and your preferred exam window.

Make the two requests explicit. Ask for (a) written confirmation that the firm will sponsor you, and (b) the name of the principal who will sign your Form U4.

Information the firm needs from you to file the U4. Gather it before you send the email so compliance has everything on the first pass:

    • Your SIE passing information — the date and confirmation number if available — your Social Security number, and your date of birth.
    • Five years of residential history and your employment history for the past ten years.
    • Whether any disclosure questions — criminal, regulatory, customer complaint, financial — will require a “Yes” answer.

What to keep. The sponsorship confirmation email or letter and the principal’s name. You will provide both to your compliance team when you file Form U4 in the next step.
