- Interview 10 niche contacts about their current workflow6 hours
Start with a problem interview, not a pitch: The goal is to hear how they work today — the exact steps, the tools stitched together, the time and money each step costs, and what breaks. You need verbatim pains before you pick what to build. Target 10 people from the same narrow niche you can reach again later — same role, same segment — not 10 random contacts. Keep each interview to 20–25 minutes over video or phone, recorded with permission.
Run and score the same way every time: Use one script for all 10 so results are comparable:
- Walk me through the last time you did [workflow] step by step.
- What tools do you use for each step and what do they cost per month?
- Where do you lose time, money, or customers?
- What workaround have you built?
- What would make you switch, and what would you pay if it were solved?
Log same day in a sheet: Contact | Current steps | Tools + monthly cost | Verbatim pain quote | Frequency | Intensity 1–5. After 10, group identical pains, count frequency, multiply by average intensity to rank. The top score becomes the nominated workflow.
