- Map the market around you2 hours
This step produces your competitor table: at least ten repair shops, dealership service departments, and mobile mechanics inside your driving radius, each with the labor rate and diagnostic fee it actually charges. The tricky part is that almost no one publishes those numbers — a shop’s website shows a phone number, not a price sheet — so the table gets built one phone call at a time.
Read the table for coverage, not for price alone. Which jobs does no one advertise doing at the customer’s location? Which hours is every shop closed — evenings, weekends? Which part of the radius has no shop at all? That gap column is the seed of your service menu: it stays on top of the table and travels into every later decision about what you will carry and what you will refuse.
