Claim Cash for a Delayed or Cancelled Flight

  1. Record the Flight Details
    5 min

This step produces a single record of your flight’s basic details — the flight number, airports, airline, date, and booking class — that you will use to test each regulation below. Nothing tricky here, but a missing airport code or a codeshare carrier can send you down the wrong path later.

Open a note (paper, Notes app, or a spreadsheet) and write down:

    • Flight number — exactly as shown on the boarding pass, e.g. BA 178 • Departure airport — city and IATA code (e.g. London Heathrow / LHR) • Arrival airport — city and IATA code • Airline name and operating carrier — they differ on codeshare flights (the flight number tells you the marketing carrier; the “operated by” line tells you the real one) • Booking class or fare code — find it on the e-ticket receipt or booking confirmation email (often a single letter like Y, M, Q, T) • Scheduled departure date and local time • Actual departure and arrival times once they are known
