Renew a Green Card or Remove Conditions on Time (Forms I-90 and I-751)

Read the card like a form, because every deadline in this guide is computed from three things printed on its face. The Category code tells you which kind of resident you are: codes starting with CR (CR1, CR2) mean a two-year conditional resident — usually through marriage. Any other code (IR1, F2A, employment-based categories and so on) on a card valid for ten years means a regular lawful permanent resident. Copy the category, the Resident Since date and the card expiration date exactly as printed, character for character, onto one note you will carry through the whole process.
