Paid ads on a small budget — test without wasting it

A written yes or no on whether your product should be buying clicks at its current price and conversion rate, and if yes a small, measurable account with one or two campaign types, working conversion tracking, and a pre-written rule for stopping or continuing.

Who it's for

Indie makers and small teams with at most a few hundred per month to test, including founders who already boosted a post and learned nothing from it and anyone being nudged to spend by a platform’s own recommendations. Fits when you have a live landing page, a price, and the ability to track signups or purchases in your own database.

About this playbook

This guide starts where most ad tutorials skip: the arithmetic that tells you whether a few hundred a month can possibly pay back. You will define the one business outcome you would pay for, calculate the most you can pay to acquire it, and check the click price and conversion rate you would need to break even. If the numbers do not work, you stop and fix the page and retention first. If they do, you set up a deliberately small test — one channel, one or two campaign types, a total spend cap, a daily budget you understand, and a kill rule written before the first euro is spent — with conversion measurement that respects consent in the EEA and UK and ATT on iOS. It does not cover enterprise-scale media buying, agency management, or broad prospecting at volume, and it does not promise profitable ads for every product.

What you need first

A live landing page you control, a defined price and margin or retention estimate, access to your site or app code and tag manager, admin access to the ad account and analytics, a way to record first-party conversions with source and timestamp, and a consent banner or plan for EEA and UK traffic if you will track or remarket there.
