Who it's for
U.S. engineers who have passed the FE exam, hold EIT certification, and have roughly four years of progressive engineering experience under the supervision of a licensed PE. Also suited for engineers who already have an NCEES Record but need to write new narratives or apply to a different state board.
About this playbook
This guide walks you through the entire PE licensing procedure: creating your NCEES Record, writing experience narratives that meet the progressive-responsibility standard, securing references from licensed PEs, filing your state board application, and registering for and passing the PE exam. It explains what boards look for in experience narratives and how to frame your work history to demonstrate technical independence rather than simply listing duties. The guide does not cover PE exam content preparation or choosing an exam discipline. Each step produces a concrete result: a submitted transcript, a completed narrative, a released Record, or a scheduled exam.
