I have a health condition — will that stop me from getting a pilot licence?

The guide's first phase has you complete the FAA medical exam with an aviation medical examiner before any training starts. It does not give advice on specific health conditions — whether a particular medical situation allows a certificate is decided in that exam and the medical process, not by this guide. For a condition you are unsure about, the aviation medical examiner is the person to ask.

I don't live in the U.S. — does this guide still apply to me?

No, not really. The guide follows the U.S. FAA pathway from start to finish: an FAA medical exam with an aviation medical examiner, a student pilot certificate through IACRA, Part 61 or Part 141 training, the FAA knowledge test, and a checkride with a designated pilot examiner. If you will train under another country's rules, that process is different and this guide does not cover it.

How much of this can I do online?

Your student pilot certificate is applied for through IACRA's online system, and ground school is done through an FAA-approved course before you take the FAA knowledge test. The medical exam, flight lessons, solo flights, and the final checkride all happen in person with an aviation medical examiner, a flight instructor, and a designated pilot examiner.

Do I need to own or have access to my own plane?

No. The guide is built around training at a flight school with a certified flight instructor, and it explicitly does not cover aircraft ownership decisions. Choosing a flight school and completing a discovery flight are part of the first phase, so you do not need an aircraft of your own to follow it.

What if I've already started flight training and got stuck?

The guide is organised into five phases, from paperwork to checkride, so you can see where you are and what comes next. If you already have your medical and student pilot certificate, you can pick up at ground school; if you are mid-training, the later phases cover solo, cross-country and night minimums, and checkride preparation. You do not have to start over from zero.

What actually happens at the checkride at the end?

The final phase is built around the practical test: reviewing the Private Pilot ACS and putting together your checkride binder, doing a mock oral and a mock flight with your CFI, and then taking the oral and flight portions with a designated pilot examiner. You are only signed off for it once you have the practical test endorsement.
